This project builds upon and extends my 2021 work, Chinesetianity, further exploring a counter-Orientalist narrative rooted in Chinese traditional culture. Drawing inspiration from Canton porcelain, the export ceramics of the Qing dynasty, the project reclaims cultural agency by innovating with flocking print techniques. Through this approach, it emphasizes the reinterpretation and transformation of cultural exchange, challenging conventional Western-centric perspectives and highlighting the dynamic adaptability of Chinese artistic heritage.
In this project, I developed innovative techniques in flock printing, harnessing the natural differences in dye uptake between various fabrics to create multicolored flock prints without mold-making.This method is more sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient.Additionally, I employed adhesive bead printing as a modern alternative to traditional hand-beading, redefining embellishment practices. The vivid pastel tones and lively patterns draw inspiration from the rich aesthetics of Canton porcelain.
